Welcome Aboard, Captain David Lamb!

  <div>

          We’re excited to welcome Captain David Lamb to the Tarpon Diem team! Born and raised in Miami, Dave grew up fishing every chance he got—exploring everything from Biscayne Bay and the Everglades to the clear waters of the Florida Keys. Those early trips with his dad and uncle sparked a lifelong passion for fishing that’s never faded.

  </div>
  <div>

          After moving to Key West at 20, Dave turned that passion into a career, guiding anglers through some of the best fishing grounds in the world. Whether it’s chasing silver kings, stalking bonefish on the flats, or going after hard-fighting barracuda, he loves the challenge and thrill that each species brings.

  </div>
  <div>

          Captain Dave’s deep local knowledge, easygoing personality, and true love for the sport fit perfectly with Tarpon Diem’s spirit of adventure. We’re proud to have him on board and can’t wait for you to experience a day on the water with him soon!

Mark booked a half day charter we left the dock at 8:00 am and took a quick look around the harbor but it didn’t look like there was going to be a tarpon bite so we went to the back country to find some sharks. We anchored on the edge of a flat and soon had the sharks swimming around the boat which is a pretty cool experience in itself. It didn’t take long for us to do battle with two nice lemon sharks. Mark thought that was about all he could handle so we left there to do some sight casting on the flats. We didn’t see much activity on the flats so we decided to take a look at a channel to see if we could find a tarpon. As soon as we dropped the anchor a tarpon rolled beside the boat. We put out our baits and waited for a tarpon bite. Before long we jumped one off. We set up again and Mark finished of the half day by fighting a beautiful 40-50 lb tarpon. A pretty successful half day flats fishing charter.

  [VIDEO]There have been some very large bull sharks in the Key West Bight and Key West Harbor. You don’t have to go far along the Harbor Walk before you hear the locals discussing the very large and intimidating visitors. They have been making appearances at the fillet stations around the charter boats and eating the scraps usually earmarked for the tarpon. The divers whose occupation is to keep the bottoms of many of the boats in the marinas are understandably nervous as the slip on their gear and go to work. Of course I am not so apprehensive about playing with our new visitors. John and Carl were certainly

The got to play with these massive bull sharks for a long and hard won fight. It will be interesting to see what happens when the tarpon show up in the near future — there will definitely be some National Geographic moments if the sharks are still around when they show up. But for now there is some serious play hard fun to be had!

I assured them that I would enjoy fishing in the rain even less than they would and told them that would see the morning brings. After a rather rainy night we awoke to clear radar an albeit cloudy sky. We left the dock as the sun was just beginning to make an appearance. We pulled the bait traps and set up to do some tarpon fishing. It wasn’t long before Anne was battling a nice tarpon. We caught a couple black nose sharks and small nurse sharks and

Father son trips are always one of my favorites whether the kids are young or adult as in this case. Steve brought his son fishing. It was a beautiful Key West morning. We decided to start out the charter by tarpon fishing. We caught a nice tarpon, a black nose shark, a little mutton snapper and we lost a nice barracuda. The we decided to go to the back country and finish up the charter with some shark fishing. We anchored up and hung a bonito off the back of the boat to chum up the sharks. We quickly caught another black nose shark and had lemon bite which managed to allude us. The bite dropped off after that and we had to move the boat after a fairly long lull the bites came one after another. The lemon sharks had found and we managed to wear out there arms pulling on them for the rest of the trip. Another great flats fishing charter in Key West catching tarpon and sharks.

[VIDEO] Janet and Kevin were married in Key West and every year the make the pilgrimage back to celebrate their anniversary. For the past three years I have been lucky enough to get them out on the water with me. Last year we talked about lobster diving and I suggested if they wanted to give it a try we could do a longer trip and both fish and try to catch a few lobsters. That’s exactly what they decided to do this year. We got out on the water bright and early a hit a couple of my best spots to try and tickle a few “bugs” into our nets.

That’s exactly what they decided to do this year. We got out on the water bright and early a hit a couple of my best spots to try and tickle a few “bugs” into our nets. We managed to get just on lobster short of their limit of twelve. Then we made a run down to the west where were able to stake out on some gorgeous white bottom next to a picturesque mangrove island where we were able to get the sharks chummed up. While there were circling the boat we managed to play with a couple before hand feeding them the remainder of the bonito and making the trip back to Key West in time for a lobster lunch. Another great Key West back country charter!

We started out catching a couple tarpon before heading down to the west to do some shallow water shark fishing. We anchored up in shallow water and rafted off to each other before we put out a bonito to call them in. It wasn’t long before we had big lemon sharks swimming around behind the boats. After catching all that that there arms could handle the sharks had become so bold that we could feed them right off the back of the boat. Don’t be scared, face you fears and hand feed a shark. Pretty cool stuff.

The first and probably least important it that I have been fortunate enough to be booked nearly every day for the past several months. Thanks to everyone with whom I have had the great pleasure to have out fishing this season. The second and most important reason for my lack of blogging is the new addition to my family. <p>

                    Those of you who read my blogs regularly (probably just my Mom) will have noticed a lack of activity on my part. The reason is two fold. The first and probably least important it that I have been fortunate enough to be booked nearly every day for the past several months. Thanks to everyone with whom I have had the great pleasure to have out fishing this season.

  <p>

                    The second and most important reason for my lack of blogging is the new addition to my family. My wife Hollie son Quin and myself are proud to introduce Scarlet Linda to the Will family. She was born at 9:01 pm on May 6. She weighed 8lbs 9ozs and was 21 3/4 inches long. She was and stills remains healthy and reasonably happy. Hollie is a wonderful stay at home Mom and has been making the adjustment to the second baby like a champ. Quinn has also been making the adjustment of sharing the attention and has been leaning to help take care of new sister. I am sure it is not easy for either of them with me having a seven day a week job especially at this time of year.

                    Thank you again to all my repeat charter as well as the new ones that been gracious enough to use my services this season. I look forward to seeing you all again. I am truly humbled by the fact that I get to live this wonderful life where the land and sea meet and meet so many awesome people and share this lifestyle with them.

Scott always wanted to get into the back country of Key West. So when he planned a trip to Key West for a long weekend he of course booked a six hour flats fishing charter. Scott and Tammy got to the boat at 7:00 and we shoved off for another back country adventure. We pulled the pin fish tarps and anchored up in a channel where we had marked some fish on the bottom machine. There were fish rolling around the boat but the wind was switching around as a cold front was passing through and so the fish had lock jaw and just wouldn’t bite. We finished up the out going tide and looked around for some more tarpon on the incoming. We found another school of tarpon at the other end of the channel and anchored up again. Once again we had the tarpon rolling around the boat but they just wouldn’t bite. We caught a nice grouper for dinner and anther one too small to keep plus a nice nurse shark but the tarpon were just not cooperating. The nice thing about a six hour charter is that we have plenty of time to change it up and try something else. We rand to the basins and jigged with the lighter tackle and caught lots of lady fish and jumped off a nice big spinner shark before we decided to anchor up and try for the lemon sharks. We quickly had a nice big lemon which gave Scott an excellent fight. We then had just enough time for Tammy to get herself another big lemon shark. The great part of Key West flats fishing is that there are always lots of choices to make the day. Of course even if the tarpon don’t bite you can always feed them at the dock.

The massive tarpon breached and violently shook it’s head before it made a blistering run and the epic battle was on! Through channels up on a couple different flats the battle lasted and arm stretching hour and a half. Another awesome example of Key West flats fishing at its finest!

Steve booked the boat for a Key West flats fishing tarpon trip. It is still early in the migration but there are tarpon around. We pulled the traps and anchored up in the harbor with the live baits and began chunking for the silver kings. It took about an hour to get our first bite. The tarpon jumped and we dropped off the anchor and began the chase. Unfortunately the fish got into a submerged line and got away. We set up again and caught a nice jack. After letting the jack go we waited for quite a while before we rewarded with a second tarpon bite. This one was also short lived as the fish chaffed through the leader on the first jump. The tide slacked off and we made a move to a channel in the back of the harbor where there a few fish being caught where we managed to hook another fish which quickly jumped off. That was the end of a tough day of fishing. But that is not where the story ends. Steve really wanted to get one so he chartered the boat again. We tried again. this time other than a big jack the whole morning was rather uneventful. We tried several spots and were just coming up short. I was not going to give up. Steve however was ready to throw in the towel. We were seeing fish roll around the boat and the tide was just beginning to move. He said that we should call it a day. I asked him to give it five more minutes and he agreed. That’s when we got the eleventh hour reprieve. A tarpon bite! Finally the was no anchor line in the way. There was no chaffed leader. There was no pulled hook. Steve’s persistence paid off and he was rewarded with an awesome fish and some great pictures with a great big tarpon! As in life when it comes to flats fishing and back country persistence certainly pays off.

I marked some fish under the boat so we anchored up and put out the baits and began chumming for the silver kings. After a few minutes of chumming we saw some tarpon rolling in front of the boat so we pulled the anchor and reset in front of the fish. It only took a few minutes before we rewarded with a 120 pound monster tarpon jumping and ripping line off the screaming reel. Stephanie did her

I was not to hopeful as we were on the back side of a front with 25 mph winds, but they wanted to give a shot anyhow. `We left the dock and headed to harbor to see if we could find any sign of the silver kings. We were slowly cruising around the harbor watching for the tarpon to give themselves up by rolling on the surface to gulp some fresh air, I noticed some nice marks on the bottom machine. BINGO.

  <p>

                    I pulled around to find the marks again and there the were. I dropped anchor and put on a live bait. Conner cast it out and I put one on for Ray. Ray had just cast his out when Conner was hooked up. We tossed the anchor and went after the fish as he was jumping and screaming off line. After a brief twenty minuted fight we had the seventy pounder to the leader. One for one.

<div data-rss-type="text">
  <p>

                    We pulled back to the anchor and set out the baits again and it was less than five minutes later that we were once again hooked up. This time with a monster. A one hundred fifty pound or better was jumping at the end of Rays line. He did battle for nearly two hours before we finally released the monster.

                    We once again grabbed the anchor and quickly had another fish on. This time we weren’t so lucky and quickly broke the fish off on the anchor of a nearby sailboat. after grabbing the anchor once again Conner fought another hundred pound to the boat for some great pictures. Rounding off an excellent morning of tarpon fishing. Another great day of flats fishing in the back country of Key West.

My most rewarding charters are by far father and son trips. Eric brought his son Braden to Key West to celebrate his Eleventh birthday, and what would a trip to the Keys be without going fishing? We began the trip by anchoring up in the harbor to see if we could get a tarpon. There have been a few rolling around but the bull sharks have moved in and have been attacking them as we have been fighting them, which has kept them moving around and a little skittish. While we didn’t manage to get a tarpon on we did hook up one of the massive bull sharks which we

                    Once in the back country of Key West we deiced to anchor up in a channel to see if the sharks would cooperate. We put out a butterflied bonito and a couple of baits and waited to see what would find us. It didn’t take long before we had on a nice black nose shark, a perfect fight for Braden to wet his chops. They are a great fight running off line and changing direction and swimming under the boat. After the first bite the bites were fast and furious. We fought a bunch of the black nose sharks plus a double header black nose and big nurse shark, and finally a nice lemon shark. Braden left the boat with arms a little longer than when he arrived. Another great Key West flats fishing charter.

As the fronts get weaker and further apart and winter fades into another memory the tarpon begin to make there yearly trek back to the tropical water of Key West. As the waters get warmer the tarpon get thicker and thicker. They have really began to show in large numbers over the past couple of weeks and the bite will only get better and better as the spring weather takes hold. April, May and June are the peak season and my appointment book is really filling up. Don’t miss your chance to catch a memory of a life time in the Key West back country.

We found some great action. Lot and lots of bites. We caught tons of hard pulling jack cravalles and jumping lady fish as well as a few trout and pompano plus snappers and more. While we were enjoying this great action we put out some shark bait. The shark rod went off and the dead was screaming. Sandy took the rod and I began the chase. We gave chase as the line melted away from the reel. We nearly got spooled before we began to get some line back on the spool. This fish made the fight anything bit easy I, changing direction often, diving under the boat and making long powerful runs. We were absolutely shocked when we finally got the animal close to the boat for the first time and saw that signature head. They took turns on the animal for two hours getting the leader several for the release bore breaking it off and sending it on the way. Another epic battle in the back country of Key West Florida.

The conditions were perfect to target one of our resident tarpon. Father and son Lee and Dylen booked a half day charter asking for a tarpon. They were her for a week so I looked at the weather and picked what looked like the best weather day. We got it right. The morning of the charter the wind was calm and warm. The tide was perfect. We pulled the traps and and made the short run to where the resident tarpon live. When we got there there the tarpon were rolling all around us. We threw the anchor and set up. We pulled the traps and and made the short run to where the resident tarpon live. When we got there there the tarpon were rolling all around us. We threw the anchor and set up. Pretty quickly Lee had a bite and a big tarpon jumped out of the water an we were off chasing down the fish as it jumped and pulled of lots of line from the screaming reel. We managed to free the fish from the first sailboat anchor but lost it to the second one. We set up again and soon had a double header of nice cravalle jacks. We then adjusted the anchor so that we were closer to where the fish were rolling and set up a couple more live baits. Dylen soon had a bite and we were off again chasing down another big tarpon. This one didn’t get away. Dylen had the fight of a lifetime. Another great half day charter in the back country of Key West with Tarpon Diem.

Chad and Kevin booked me for a half day shark fishing charter. The weather and tide were perfect to make the long run to the west. We made the long run and anchored up on the edge a flat with a nice white bottom and hung a barracuda off the back of the boat to bring the sharks to us. We quickly had out first bite. Chad fought the first on to the boat and was released in short order. We began to see the sharks circling around the shallow water looking for the source of smell that was driving them crazy. Chad fought the first on to the boat and was released in short order. We began to see the sharks circling around the shallow water looking for the source of smell that was driving them crazy. The longer we were there the more sharks that showed up behind the boat. The sharks were biting as fast as we could a bait in the water. We were double up for most of the four hour trip. We had released twelve of the big lemons when they asked how many was the most sharks I had ever caught on a half day charter. When I told them that sixteen was my best they now had a goal. More and more sharks we coming up to the boat. They were trying to eat the fish off the back of the boat and we had to keep pulling it out of the water so they wouldn’t eat it. Eventually we were too slow and a big lemon mad off with most of it in a single bite. When the dust had settle we had let go of eighteen lemon sharks smashing my old record by two sharks. Another great day of flats fishing in the back country of Key West.

  Or would it be early? I suppose you could make an argument for either as this is about as far away from tarpon season as you could get. The migration is long gone and the weather should be cold and windy. There are always some resident tarpon that never leave, which can be very tricky to get to bite. They don’t like cold weather. They don’t like windy days. The tide has to be just right. The migration is long gone and the weather should be cold and windy. There are always some resident tarpon that never leave, which can be very tricky to get to bite. They don’t like cold weather. They don’t like windy days. The tide has to be just right. Ian had called me the week before letting me know he was going to be in town for a couple of months and to let me know if I thought the conditions would be right. About a week and a half later the planets aligned and all the conditions looked like they would be perfect for an off season tarpon bite. The wind dropped off. The weather had been warm for several days and the tide was going to be just right at the perfect time in the morning. I put out a couple traps the day before the trip in anticipation of maybe getting a tarpon or two in the morning. We got of the dock just as the sun was beginning lighten up the eastern sky for an early morning charter. We pulled the traps and they were loaded! We went to the spot and the tide was just beginning to move as we put the baits out and started to ;chum with lots of fresh pin fish chunks . the tide was just coming of the horizon when we had the first bite and it was a big one! A huge tarpon that was close to 150 pounds. A monster tarpon any time of the year let alone out of season. Ian battled the fish for over an hour before he managed to get the leader on the rod tip for a catch. I was worried that so much time had passed as the tarpon bite on the off season tends to be just a first thing in the morning event. My concern was unfounded as we had another bite within five minutes of getting back on the anchor. The fish jumped off immediately. But it was pretty clear that we would not have to wait long for another bite since the fish were rolling all around the boat, and sure enough we quickly had another fish on which Justin fought to the boat rather quickly for it’s size of close to one hundred pounds. It was an incredible day. We hooked fish after fish. some big some small but it was just non-stop action. We ended up catching six tarpon out of ten bites as well as a couple of nice jack cravelles and a nurse shark. What a great day in the Key West back country. Flats fishing at the finest.

The beautiful thing about flats boat fishing in the beautiful Key West back country is that even when the wind is up, as it has been for the last couple of weeks, there are always plenty of options to have a great fishing charter in calm water. Campbell and Jan chartered the boat for a morning half day and we ran into the back country where we drifted the basins casting jigs. The great thing about this kind of fishing is that you really never know what is going to bite next. We caught cravalle jacks, lady fish, several nice trout, which I filleted for them to have for dinner,
